Rome – San Giovanni Rotondo – Medjugorje

Upon arrival at Rome airport your tour escort will greet and welcome you to Italy. Start with a tour of this amazing city, which has the inique combination of being the spiritual capital for all Catholics and the centre of Western Civilization. Visit a vast collections of masterpieces in the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel where you will see Michelangelo’s famous ceiling and “Last Judgment”. This afternoon, during your Christian Rome tour, you will visit St. John in Lateran, the cathedral of Rome. You will also see the Holy Steps climbed by Christ in Jerusalem, and the Basilica of the Holy Cross, where some of Christianity’s most important relics, including one of the True Cross. Of all the churches in Rome dedicated to the Madonna, visit the largest, Santa Maria Maggiore which was built in 440 by Pope Sixtus III. Celebrate Mass at Santa Maria Maggiore . After breakfast attend the weekly Papal Audience. Lunch in on your own. Your day in Rome offers you some free time this afternoon for shopping or sightseeing before gathering at St. Peter’s. Dinner and overnight in Rome.

Today, with your guide, you will explore Ancient Rome with a tour that includes the Coliseum, Capitol Hill, The Vittorio Emanuele Monument, The Roman Forum, Circus Maximus and Michelangelo’s statue of Moses at St. Peter in Chains church. Dinner and overnight in Rome.

Depart from Rome after breakfast. Our tour takes us to Montecassino at 600 metres above sea-level to visit the Monastery founded by St. Benedict about 529 A.D. on the site of a Roman fortificationo. Montecassino became famous for the prodigious life and the Sepulchre of its Founder. Visible form the Abbey are the war cemeteries, which contain the graves of over 16000 victims from WW1 and 107,000 victims from WW11 form 32 different nations. Late morning depart to Pompei, to visit with a local guide the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and its miraculous Icon of the Madonna and Child elevated on the high Altar. Learn about the life of the Blessed Bartolo Longo, who built the shrine and dedicated his life to serving orphans and preparing them for careers.Celebrate Holy Mass and Rosary. We continue our journey to San Giovanni Rotondo. Dinner and overnight.

We will spend the day in and around San Giovanni to see the places associated with St Pio of Pietrelcina, a Capuchin friar, priest and mystic known for his devotion to God, care for the sick, and supernatural gifts. Visit the Shrine of Our Lady of  Grace, that houses the tomb of Padre Pio. Later we visit the Grotto of St. Michael the  Archangel in Monte Sant’Angelo. It has been visited by countless popes and saints, including Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI and St. Francis of Assisi, who considered it to be so holy that he would not even enter it. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Depart this morning from on a 2 ½ hour journey to Lanciano. Visit the Sanctuary of the Eucharistic Miracle. During the Holy Mass the host was changed into real Flesh and live Blood as a divine response to a monk’s doubt about Jesus’ Real Presence in the Eucharist. This unique type of Eucharistic Miracle occurred in the 8th century and is believed to be the only know case of its kind. This afternoon you continue your journey to Loreto. The Holy House of Loreto historically is the most revered Marian shrines in the world. Tradition says it was brought from Nazareth to Loreto on Angel’s wings to protect it from destruction. The Holy House of Mary is believed to be the very home where the Virgin Mary lived, conceived and raise Jesus. A large basilica has been built around the shrine. Celebrate Holy Mass Just a short drive to Ancona where you embark on the ferryboat to Split in Croatia. Dinner on board, overnight in en suite cabins.

Early morning arrival at Split. A Walking tour of Split, this 1700 year old city which began its history with the construction of the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s summer residence in the 4th century  and where he spent his declining years. Split is on the World Heritage List. Your journey to Medjugorje (approx 3 hours) takes you along the breathtaking Dalmatian Coast and enroute you stop at the Little Lourdes Shrine in Veprice for Mass. Arrival in Medjugorje. Dinner and overnight.

In this small town Medjugorje “The town between the hills” the Blassed Virgin Mary has been appearing and giving messages to the whole world. Our Lady’s messages are all of Peace, Love, Faith, Conversion, Prayer and Fasting. In Her own words “I have come to tell the world God exists”. On the hill Podbrdo, the Apparition Hill, on June 24th 1981, while out playing, six children saw a beautiful lady carrying a child. They called her “Gospa” (Lady). Our Lady continues to appear every day at 6.40 p.m. Medjugorje is a place of peace where many people have been healed in body and spirit. After breakfast, meeting with a devoted local guide for an orientation walk from your hotel to St. James’s Church. Every morning after breakfast you will attend Mass in English at 10 a.m. You will climb Apparition Hill and pray at cross, where Our Lady first appeared. You will also climb Krizevac (Cross Mountain), praying the Stations of the Cross. The people of the parish erected an impressive concrete cross at the very blessing of the sick and the blessing of the items you have bought. On Wednesdays and Saturday be present for the Adoration of the Blessed sacrament, a profound spiritual experience always to be remembered. You may have the opportunity to hear one of the visionaries’ talks during your stay. However, this depends of their availability. Dinner and overnight.

After breakfast you will continue religious activities whit free time for souvenir shopping. At 3.30 departure from hotel for our return journey to Split. Embark, dinner on board and overnight en suite cabins.

Breakfast on board. Early morning arrival in Ancona and transfer to Assisi. Guided visit of the Basilica of St. Francis, with its awe-inspiring frescos by Cimabue, Giotto, Martini, Pietro Lorenzetto and other renowned artists, San Rufino, where St. Francis was baptized, and St. Clare to see the Crucifix that spoke to St. Francis “Go and repair my house which, as you see, il falling into ruin”. This revelation led him to a life of piety. Celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St. Francis. Our return journey to Rome takes us through rolling hills, olive groves and hill top villages of the Umbria region. We arrive in Rome late evening. Dinner and overnight.

After breakfast transfer to airport for your return trip home. Safe journey and God bless
